A Mouthful

There aren’t many reasons to try to look cute today. On a good day if you’re adorable, the waiter at the bar won’t charge you for that last mojito you just ordered. If you’re cute and unlucky, you might be denied access to the new bar downtown. That is just where Crowded Teeth creator Michelle Romo steps in with her charming jewelry line of feisty friends.

“I had just started making graphics and thought that it would be cool to do a line of t-shirts. I had always loved Sanrio and had just seen the Paul Frank line which was still pretty new at the time (11 years ago) and something in my brain clicked and said ‘I could do that!’”

With a love of illustrating at her core, Romo sought to outfit the modern girl with a product with an attitude. What started out as a creative spin off of other character designers at the time, she took her love of graphic design and t-shirt prints to the next level; accessories. Now characters such as grinning whales and stout penguins are seen on anything from t-shirts to hair pins. “I think the kind of girl that wears Crowded Teeth is just someone who likes things that are cute, and has a silly sense of humor. I like to sneak little silly things into my art and I hope people notice them.”
